Hotlines, social media pages, and advocacy campaigns are increasingly targeted not just by hackers, trolls, and bad-faith actors but also subjected to surveillance by the governments.

Simple small mistakes ( a weak password, an unsecured folder, a phishing email ) can undo years of trust-building.

This is not just an IT problem. It’s an organizational survival issue.

It is also our moral and ethical and professional obligation towards those we are here to serve.

Everyone involved, from hotline managers to social media teams, program staff to leadership, needs to know how to protect themselves, their own devices, the data they generate and have access to and their communities (online as well as in real time).
