Welcome to ASAP Academy!

We’re so glad you’re here. Whether you’re just starting out or already deep in the work of advocating for safe abortion rights, this course is designed to help you learn, unlearn, reflect, and connect with a growing community of thoughtful learners and changemakers.

This handbook will walk you through everything you need to know, from who can apply, how to enroll, what to expect, and how to make the most of your time with us. Let’s get started!

1. Enrollment & Admission

Eligibility Criteria

Foundation Course

Open to anyone, who wants to explore the politics, technicalities, and critical issues around safe abortion rights!

Whether you are new to the safe abortion rights movement as an advocate or looking to uplevel your knowledge for improving your capacity as a researcher, programme manager, policy maker, public health expert, health care provider, trainer, doctor, nurse, clinic manager, lawyer, whether in NGO sector, academia or working with the government, this course is for you. This space is not just for learning, it’s about building a stronger, more connected community of advocates.

This is also for you if you work in:

  • Sexual and reproductive health and rights
  • Human rights
  • Sex workers’ rights
  • Intersection with disability rights
  • Family planning and contraception programmes
  • Adolescent girls’ issues
  • Child marriage prevention
  • Refugee and migrant crisis work
  • LGBTQ + rights
  • GBV and IPV
  • Or any social justice movement

Advanced Course

Open only to:

  • Those who have completed the Foundation Course
  • Alumni of past YAI programs

Note: We reserve the right to evaluate eligibility criteria and offer admission accordingly

Enrollment Process

  1. Application Form
    Start by filling out the Enrollment Form.
    You’ll hear back from us within 2 working days after a quick vetting process.
  2. Payment & Confirmation
    Once accepted, complete your payment.
    Full payment must be made at least 7 days before the course begins to confirm your spot.

Fees, Scholarships & Policies

Refund & Cancellation

Refunds will not be possible in case of cancellation.
However, we understand that people may have conflicting priorities making it difficult to join so if you are unable to attend we can hold your payment up to one semester beyond the one you have enrolled in.

Scholarships

We offer limited scholarships each semester to ensure access for youth, people living in conflict situations, marginalized communities and those who don’t have any organisational affiliations. 2. Course Structure

Courses Offered

Foundation Course Modules

  1. Gender, Patriarchy and Power
  2. Menstruation, Conception and Contraception
  3. Technical Updates on Safe Abortion
  4. (Bonus) Politics of Self-Managed Abortion

Advanced Course Modules

  1. Gender and Sexism in Mass Media
  2. Public, Private, and Multiple Patriarchies
  3. Crime and Punishment
  4. Selective Abortion

Duration

  • Both courses run for 12 weeks

Learning Tracks & Certification

  • Each module includes:
    • Pre-recorded videos
    • Reading materials
    • Assignments
    • 1 live session with trainer + peers
  • Live calls and on-time assignment submissions are mandatory to be certified. You will receive live call schedules and assignment deadlines in advance.
  • Certification is awarded upon successful completion.
  • Live sessions require your camera to be on and your active participation.

Accessing the Course

After payment:
  • You’ll receive a unique login for the ASAP Academy website
  • You can change your password anytime

How to Navigate the Platform

You’ll receive a video guide during orientation call to help you get started but here’s the basic flow:
  1. Go to ASAP Academy Website – https://asap-asia-academy.org/
  2. Click on My Account and log in
  3. Go to Enrolled Courses
  4. Click on the Curriculum Tab to access your modules

Internet Requirements

Videos range from 15–45 minutes, so a stable Wi-Fi connection is important to avoid buffering.

4. Course Participation Expectations

Live Sessions & Assignments

  • Attend all live sessions with camera ON
  • Be present and engaged, passive attendance will be marked as absent
  • Submit assignments on time for better feedback and smoother live discussions
  • To the best of our ability, the live call schedule will be maintained. However, in the event that more than half of the batch is unable to submit their assignments on time, we may need to postpone the session to uphold academic integrity.
We kindly ask you to keep in mind our collective responsibility in ensuring a smooth and enriching learning experience for the entire cohort.

  • You’ll be added to a Learner WhatsApp group
  • Use it to share, ask, connect, and stay in the loop

5. Assessment & Grading

  • Your learning will be evaluated through assignment submissions and live session participation.
  • The aim isn’t to judge, it’s to understand how well you’re learning, and to help us support you better
  • We have a policy around use of AI and please refer to it – click here

Late Submissions & Extensions

If something comes up that could delay your submission, do let us know.
We’re here to support you but it is important for us to ensure that the schedule is maintained for the larger learning community.

6. Language & Accessibility

  • The course is currently in English
  • We are working on translating materials and adding video subtitles – expected by end of 2025
